This collage was inspired by a small collage I did many years earlier. I realized
what the collage was about after someone gave me a book on the Jacob's Ladder
passage from Genesis, in the bible. I enlarged the basic elements and re-collaged
them, using tiny pieces of magazine paper for the color, so that it would
look like a mosaic. The woman on the ladder leans back in ecstasy as she climbs
the ladder to God. At the top are the four Hebrew letters of the tetragrammaton
- the unspeakable name of God. She stands in the middle of the ladder, between
earth, symbolized by the curtain and buildings, and God, symbolized by the
Hebrew letters.
